THE VISION 2030 FUND

STRATEGIC INVESTORS WORK WITH MOMENTUM

From the waves that pro surfers ride to the pricing trends that experienced stock traders follow, harnessing momentum can lead to exceptional outcomes. When conditions are flat in the water—or in the market—it’s impossible to catch a perfect wave—or to realize significant investment growth.

Strategic thinkers prepare for the ideal conditions, and go when the time is right.

ABOUT MOMENTUM INVESTING

Unlike traditional buy-and-hold investment strategies, momentum investing seeks to capitalize on upward price trends and quickly get out of positions that show a downward price trend.

This strategy requires active management and a strong technical understanding of security pricing trends and how to leverage short-term movements. Against the potential upsides, momentum investing carries risks related to unpredictable sudden market shifts and unsustainably high valuations.

A STRATEGY FOCUSED ON GROWTH

The Vision 2030 Fund follows a disciplined long-short, momentum-driven equity strategy that targets domestic stocks with upward price trend potential.

To implement this strategy, we:

  • Actively manage the fund portfolio
  • Deploy capital only in uptrends (hold cash otherwise)
  • Scale into winners from small starters
  • Cut losers swiftly
  • Focus on leading names in top sectors
  • Maintain a medium- to long-term view
  • Preserve capital through robust hedging
WHAT MAKES THE VISION 2030 FUND UNIQUE?

The Vision 2030 Fund investment strategy values insight and agility over algorithms in order to balance return-seeking with strategic risk management. We pursue a disciplined long-short, momentum-driven equity strategy, targeting well-known domestic stocks with strong momentum qualities.

INVESTMENT PHILOSOPHY

Our team, on The Vision 2030 Fund’s management philosophy, in their own words…

Edward Skrod

CTO

“We value human insight over algorithmic automation.”

“We don’t use algorithm-driven trading solutions. If a trading strategy can be replicated algorithmically (programmatically), it can also be rigid and unable to quickly adapt to changing market conditions.

Our approach to trading requires a human to ‘feel’ the market’s temperature and anticipate changes. That’s what Steve does, and his skill and experience allow us to be nimble in a changing market.”

Jon Arnold

CEO, CIO

“We act on performance trends, not opinion, and actively manage risk.”

“The Vision 2030 Fund takes an active approach to risk management, including treating cash as a viable position during unfavorable market conditions. Our philosophy is that if we can limit the downside, then the upside will take care of itself when you have the right stock market environment.

That contrasts with funds that seek to maximize returns at all times and take what we see as unnecessary risks in order to do so. We’re happy to sit in cash when things are not in our favor, because the best way to achieve a superior return is to put capital to work when conditions are favorable.

We can also accept when we’re wrong about a position. Many people find that difficult, especially when they have a strong opinion about what a particular security or the market should be doing. When we have a loser, we cut it quickly. When we have a winner, we add. So we typically generate high returns, but in the process, investors may be down 10% in a given month when conditions aren’t ideal. That requires investors with a certain level of risk tolerance, to be comfortable with those fluctuations.”

Gabe Neeriemer, RICP

Operations Manager

“We harness momentum strategically for growth.”

“We target stocks that are extremely liquid and aim to ride on the coattails of existing winners. We trade in and out of the same names as often as necessary to pursue our growth strategy without moving the market. For example, if we’re up 10% on a position and then get out, now we’re building from that additional 10%.

We deploy capital only in uptrends, taking on small risks at first and then scaling into our positions only when it makes sense to do so.”
